Sealants
Dental sealants placed at Cascade Family Dental are effective at providing extra cavity protection for at-risk children and adults. A dental tooth sealant is a simple preventive treatment that helps protect vulnerable chewing surfaces from decay.
Average procedure time: 15 mins
Dental sealants are plastic dental coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molar and premolar teeth. These protective coatings greatly reduce the buildup of bacteria in the deep crevices of these teeth, keeping your mouth healthy for longer. More than 75 percent of dental caries (cavities) begin in these deep grooves because cleaning debris from pits and fissures is very difficult. Typically clear, tinted, or white in colour, dental tooth sealants are an aesthetic choice as well as a preventative one.
How Are Dental Sealants Applied?
Sealants can be applied quickly during a single visit to our office. Your dentist or dental hygienist will clean the teeth to be sealed and surround them with cotton to keep the area dry. A bonding agent is applied to the biting surface of the teeth to help the dental tooth sealant material bond to the teeth. The teeth are then rinsed and dried. The resin sealant solution is applied to the biting surface between deep grooves. Depending on the type of sealant used, the material will either harden automatically or with a special curing light.

Long-Lasting Protection with Dental Coatings
Modern dental coatings are designed to provide durable protection against everyday wear while helping lower the risk of cavities. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, sealants can remain effective for several years. During routine visits, our team will examine the treated teeth and recommend touch-ups or replacement if needed to maintain maximum protection.
Who Can Benefit from Sealants Dental Treatment?
Sealants dental treatment is an excellent preventive option for children as soon as their permanent molars erupt, but adults with healthy teeth and deep grooves can benefit as well. By creating a protective barrier over the chewing surfaces, this treatment reduces the chances of food particles and bacteria becoming trapped, supporting long-term oral health and helping preserve your natural teeth.
