Crowns

Some procedures require more than a filling to restore the tooth to its original state.

Average procedure time: 2 appointments, 1-1.5 hours and 0.5 hours

A crown, also called a tooth cap, is a casing that surrounds the tooth surface, protecting tooth structure that cannot be restored by other means. After a root canal treatment, a broken tooth, or a deep cavity, a dental tooth crown is often a necessary step in returning function and appearance to the tooth. Crowns or tooth cap services can also be used for cosmetic purposes, as in covering a discoloured or misshapen tooth.

What kind of crown?

Like fillings, crowns can be made of different materials – gold, porcelain fused to metal, full porcelain, e.max, and zirconia crowns. Gold is the most durable material for tooth crowns, and can last upwards of 20 years if well-maintained, but isn’t the most aesthetic material and is usually saved for back teeth. Porcelain and Zirconia are highly aesthetic materials, and can be matched to the natural colour of your teeth for an indistinguishable finish. The material used in your mouth, however, would be dependent on the tooth to be crowned. Talk to us about which material is right for you. At Cascade Family Dental, you’ll receive high-quality dental cap services in Merritt, BC.
