Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance that is used to replace missing teeth. There are several types of bridges. The most popular type of bridge is the traditional bridge which is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. This type of bridge is made up of two crowns that go over anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth). The bridge essentially bridges the gap caused by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges can last many years if cared for, however normal wear may require them to be replaced or re-cemented.

Fixed bridges are used to:

  • Fill spaces caused by missing teeth
  • Maintain facial shape
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability
  • Restore your smile
  • Replace a removable partial denture with a permanent dental appliance
